George Washington LEDFORD was born on 3 Apr 1848 in Cherokee
County, North Carolina and died on 15 Mar 1932 in Clay County, NC. Mary Ann "Pollie" MOSS was born in 1845. She was the daughter of Jefferson Moss & Margaret (Peggy) Henderson

Hettie Ledford was born on February 24, 1904 and died on October 11, 1920 .

Additional Information On Hettie Ledford Berrong:

After her mother died Hettie M. Ledford was raised by her Uncle, James Dee Nicholson. She is listed (age 6) in his household in the 1910 Towns County, Georgia Census. James Dee Nicholson was married to Illar Anderson Hogsed at the time this census was taken. He married Ilar after his first wife Elizabeth Anderson (the daughter of Robert A and Mary Anderson -on 2-22-1895 Clay Co NC) died..

Hettie Ledford married Bon Berrong ,the son of William M. Berrong and Rose McNabb Berrong. Hettie and Bon had one child. A son, Nevert M. Berrong who was born on October 9, 1920. Nevert, was delivered at home by cesarean section; Hettie died two days later.

Bon Berrong's sister, (Neta Berrong Owenby) had a young son at the time Nevert was born. Neta took Nevert home with her and nursed him along with her own son; Bill Owenby. Nevert lived with his Aunt Neta and Uncle Jesse Owenby until he was old enough to eat solid foods and then his father, Bon Berrong took him home. Bon never remarried, Nevert had no siblings.

On April 27,1934 while intoxicated, Bon shot and killed his father; William M. Berrong.. Bon was convicted and sentenced to death in the electric chair. Two prominent citizens of Towns county, one being Dr. Rice, appealed to the Judge for clemency. His son Nevert, also had a petition signed by people of the town requesting that Bon not be sentenced to death. Bon was given life in prison. He contracted tuberculosis while in prison and died years later. He and Hettie are both buried in Bethaberi Cemetery in Shooting Creek, NC.
